Is Nintendo 3DS the Future of Handheld Consoles?
Nintendo fans rejoice! Come April 2011, you would get your hands on the next big thing in the world of handheld consoles. Yes, the new Nintendo 3DS is coming out and it has jumped on the 3D bandwagon. Apparently, 3D is the future and Nintendo have heeded its call.
Many will probably ask themselves if this really is a 3D handheld console or just a DeSmuME emulator. With the many hardware features placed in its design, it’s not hard to imagine it actually happening. Lenticular technology is being used, making it entirely possible for you to enjoy 3D effects without using the usual glasses used in cinemas. The addition of the gyroscope and accelerometer makes it possible to detect movement. There is also a nifty slider that makes it possible for gamers to adjust the depth and perspective. On top of that, there are two cameras that would not only be able to detect movement but it could also snap 3D pictures.
Going back to the basics of handheld console, the question of how the Nintendo R4 3DS would feel in your hands would probably pop up. You don’t have to worry about the size as well as the weight if you are already comfortable with either the old DS or the DS Lite. There are a few differences between the three but it’s not so much as you would find the 3DS awkward to handle. It’s still something that you can comfortably slip in your pocket, hypothetically speaking of course.
In terms graphics, it has generally been observed that it is far the best looking compared to the other handheld consoles of Nintendo in the past. Aside from the 3D feature, the graphics is far cleaner as well as crisper. With the right games, it even surpasses the quality of the graphics of its rival consoles. Because these consoles are usually more expensive, this would win favors from a lot of gamers. After all, why pay for something that would cost more if you would get better quality for a cheaper price?
One of the selling points of the Nintendo 3DS are the upcoming games that would be come out once the console is in the market. Though it enjoys backward compatibility, gamers should take advantage of the 3D feature and get the new games made for the 3DS. Some of the titles announced are Nintendogs+cats, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D "The Naked Sample” and Resident Evil Revelations. These are from different genres, each targeting a certain audience. The good news is that all these games show that the 3DS was designed for all types of gamers in mind.
